Ingredients:
4 slices of bread (a day-old bread)
2 large eggs
1 cup of milk
1/4 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted
Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
Instructions:
1. In shallow dish whisk together eggs, milk, sugar and salt until well combined.
2. Heat non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
3. Dip each bread slice into egg mixture, coating both sides evenly.
4. Place coated bread slices on skillet or griddle, cooking 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown.
Repeat with the remaining bread slices.
Serve warm with your choice of toppings: maple syrup, fresh fruits, whipped cream, or powdered sugar.
Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg, if desired.
Avoid Instructions:
- _Don't over-soak_ the bread in the egg mixture, or it might get too soggy.
_Avoid overheating_ the skillet or griddle; it will burn the French toast.
Avoid using a spatula to press down on the French toast because it will make the French toast dense. Also, never serve cold French toast because this can make it lose its texture and flavor.
Tips and Variations:
The best bread for making your French toast is one that is a day old for better dipping in the egg mixture. Put in one teaspoon of vanilla extract into the egg mixture for extra flavor.
Toast: Try Challah or brioche for a more decadent flavor. Add chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the egg mixture for added texture and flavor.
